Hey this is a rather interesting ideal. And while it looks like you are using characters from another book for the culture, I'm not familiar with that author or stories, but it dont really seem to matter cause you give us the revelant data of the story so we can follow along. I am definitely going to be looking foward to further updates.
And oh yeah, I liked the communications between the I guess leaders of differnet what ships or stations? but being a guy I can definitely say that Harry would definitely enjoy practicing with girls and women. in fact I think his guardian sma should take him by the hand and they can practice together cause he definitely finds her attractive. But you might want to wait a little bit cause I was age 12 before girls went from my mortal enemies to absolutely fascinating!

Oh, WOW! I *love* the Culture novels, and the idea of a crossover... I'm hooked and you've only just started! :=)

This is an interesting story, even though I've never read (or heard of, prior to Chapter One) the Culture books. I'll have to look into tracking them down.
As for ship names, with one being It's Not My Fault, other obvious names are I've Got A Bad Feeling About This and Never Tell Me The Odds.

Great chapter. I think I am starting to pick up the Culture 'verse, but it seems complicated. Is there a website that you can recommend that has a good overview?

Ah, curse belated thoughts anyway.
So, how permanently drained of magic are Dumbledore and his pawns? Please say that he managed to get Snape, Fudge, and Umbridge somehow

Excellent story. Just reading this chapter, in particular, makes me want to read the originating stories. I'll go look the books up now.
Thank you for writing.

Looking good.
A thought for one of the ship names:

You know, I could have used an AI like the Minds when I was a teenager... conspiring to get me a girl, or several as the case may be! :D
The whole thing Oedipus Complex thing is a tad bit creepy though.
Loving the story so far, keep up the great work!

Wow... that is a heck of an original plot. It's freshening that there are authors who can think something completely new and humorous.
I'm looking forward to read further chapters.

Fun premise. thanks for writing.
Now I have a new author to pursue. I've never read any of Banks' work, but from what you've written here, it seems to be worth checking out.
The "It's not my fault" name is presumably a subtle homage to star wars? In which case, perhaps a name/homage out of Star Trek would suit for one of the other ships. Perhaps the "Fool me twice, shame on me", or maybe the "can't change the laws of Physics".
Or maybe the "By his bootstraps", if you want to give an homage to the grand master Heinlein?
Curious about having him show up around Nov 2 -- if this follows the original timeline, will he show up in the middle of Hermione's funeral? Not only that, with the amount of intelligence being shown here, just how quickly might Harry skip into an older class? I can see him associating with folks more of Woods or Percy's year in terms of maturity, even if he is stuck in first year for the schoolwork.
And I am very curious to see just how all this technology will function in proximity to Hogwarts. It does seem established in canon, after all, that magic seems to inhibit electricity and other technologies.
Thanks again, it's a fun read!

Man.. I haven't read Banks in a long time. I've always found the naming convention of the Culture for it's ships highly amusing too, so I really like this chapter. Please keep up the good work, it's good to see you writing again!

Interesting start. Not familiar with the crossover though, so I hope you include enough explanation of the backstory for this to make sense.

This has promise, it's very rare to read any crossover with Culture since the tech and science in it is so advance. I hope that your muse will return to help you continue your other stories. I enjoyed them alot.
