I should add.....I think poor floppy (or whatever you want to call the sorting hat) is going to spontaneously combust the instant he touches Harry's head. I think I am looking forward to that + the sorting more than the meeting with Dumbles.

Excellent. Dumbledore's men have no idea how lucky they are. I also like that you are providing more background into the Culture as well. I really got a kick out of Petunia's response to Harry. I'm looking forward to your next update, especially how the confrontation you left us hanging with pans out.

A very interesting update, I have never read Banks but I think now I will.

Well, it seems Albus clearly misfigured travel times; I'd have thought the power/distance relationships for that ritual would've made him consider a *very* great distance, but apparently his worldview is still way too planet bound.
So now the Culture and Wizarding Britain meet and I daresay both are going to be quite affected, though I suspect the Culture will weather the effects much better.
This is definitely a most enjoyable and different crossover and I'm looking forward to the results of this confrontation.

Love, absolutely love your portrayal of Dumbledore. Really perfect. I just finished reading the latest chapter of Power of the Press, and their "Beat you about the head and shoulder with a hammer" style of character development was really grating on my nerves. Lines about like "his chair, his throne" and his ruminations about how Harry could use a little "adversity" at school showed exactly what kind of person Dumbledore is without telling. Thanks for the subtlety. I was in dire need.
And great chapter overall. I'm looking forward to seeing Harry shake things up at Hogwarts.

Loved the Star Trek/Star Wars (with a Space Ball thrown in) stuff. Very funny. The reaction of Petunia didn't make sense until I realized that she thought Harry was his father. How big is he, anyway?
The Headmaster falling into depression was novel. Him setting up the Stone as a test is something I've wondered about.
Like the cat and the owl without a personality.
Thanks for the update.

Very cool/interesting, though there will be one large change in the Harry/Hermione dynamics, Canon Hermione was always the more mature one and never quite saw Harry as an equal.

Great story, but a question- fic writers love Hermione way too much, and I notice that in AUs where you would think the different Harry could never get along with her, and they eventually have them become friends despite all of the differences between them that most real eleven year olds would never get past.
I hope you do things a little more realistically in this and not make the Trio come together unless you can put a new spin on it.

This is a darn good fic. I need to read this series, it looks to be amazing.

Great story, some of the thing you mentioned in the authors notes, especially the idea of the society not indulging in marital relationships and actually going as far as to consider them barbaric, was very reminiscent of the book "A Brave New World" by Aldous Huxley. The idea of everyone being extraordinarily fit and good looking is also mentioned very interesting. You're society strongly reminds me of a more functional, and all around better version of the utopia described by Huxley. This is in no way a bad thing, this story is very interesting, and i mean no offense. And on a different note, if you've ever played the new Half-Life 2 games, the minds you describe in this story have very similar powers to the controllers in Half-Life 2 Episode 2. Again not criticizing, just thought you might be interested in seeing other areas where such ideas have been used. Again, great story. Oh and P.S. i haven't read any Banks novels, but after this i think I'll pick one up. Thanks, PRK13

Wow, 3 months space travel to Earth! That is quite a distance! Poor Dumbledore is going to get a rude awakening when he finally meets "Harry" and his guardian. How much of the "Culture" are he and Sma going to relate to Dumbledore? Are they going to tell them where Harry has been for the last 10 years? I look forward to the rest of this story. pms

Awesome...lmao over the Star Trek vs Star Wars part. Can't wait for more...to see Harry's reaction to candle power and no machines what so ever! Parchment and quills, ha. Best Harry not raised by the Dursley ever. At least so far. Can't wait to see what the cat and owl do to Hogwarts/ Snape?

Well, good story, and quite readable even though I haven't read Culture series.
I'm waiting impatiently for the Harry's interactions with the Snape. Given that Harry will yhink that Snape is somethink insignificant and not deserving much thought (as is my understanding of his character and attitude) it would be very fun to watch...

Nice one Ruskbyte. This story captured mine attention from the begining.
I think that the best moment in this chapter was when Petunia answered the doorbell.
So ... if I'm not mistaken Harry looks like James Potter dosen't he ...
I wonder what Doumbledore's reaction will be ::grins:: after he has seen Harry.
Update soon!!!

Dammit. This:
Dumbledore, following in Snape’s footsteps, abandoned his breakfast, such as it was, and excused himself from the staff table. As he left, he said, "I do not ask you to like the man. But I do expect for you to tolerate him."
- is so damn familiar, and I can't place it! I'll kick myself if it's HP, but I'm thinking Jurassic Park or BttF? I can hear it my head. Going to drive me insane.

Well he's on earth now, now all he needs to do is slew his way thru the hogwarts female population instead of all those little stupid test dumbydork wants him to do!

A nice setup for the part I really wanted to read. :-) Oh well, I guess it will be next time when we'll see "advanced tech" -v- magic. Not having ever read any of the Culture novels, this is pretty interesting so far. Nice work.
