I just reread this one from the beginning, and I'm delighted with it. Again. I love the way Harry is so changed - he's *sane,* and that's a very unusual thing in the HP fandom. Sma is currently in second place for best mother of all time (right behind Cordelia Naismith.) This story is fresh and fun.
I hope your muse leads you back here.

Somebody has already linked several relevant Wikipedia entries considering Culture. Here are some more for the uninitiated:

Culture FAQ
Banksie's own 'A Few Notes on the Culture'

There is a Culture mailing list, relatively low-traffic and mostly off-topic except at the times of new book releases, Banks' tours, fan conventions (called CrowCons, see about the novel and the mini TV-series). These two sites have slightly different instructions for subscribing:

Amused. I am greatly amused. As a fan of the Culture series for more than 10 years, its nice to see them used in a xover. I sincerely hope that you allow Harry a drone and a terminal for his personal used while at hogwarts. And possibly a module which he ends up installing a small culture factory in the Chamber of Secrets. I could easily see him constructing his own tower of modern alloys and allowing a few other drones access to the students and staff, perhaps a cultural anthropologist drone to give interviews. With a GCU in the Oort Cloud it would be amusing for Harry to have the duties of an ambassador, and determine after interaction with the Malfoys etc that the Wizarding culture must be reformed to culture standards as it runs on oppressive bigotry and sexism and that's just not the culture way of doing things. A visit from our intrepid general might be a good idea too. He's appeared in a number of Banks' novels as a bit player.

Oh, WOW! I *love* the Culture novels, and the idea of a crossover... I'm hooked and you've only just started! :=)

Interesting start. Not familiar with the crossover though, so I hope you include enough explanation of the backstory for this to make sense.

This has promise, it's very rare to read any crossover with Culture since the tech and science in it is so advance. I hope that your muse will return to help you continue your other stories. I enjoyed them alot.

Nice to see you writing again! Good start here; definitely something new. I can't wait to see more of what could certainly be another unique piece from you.

I like it!

I honestly have no idea what the crossover series is, but the sci-fi aspect really grabs my attention (that was one of the major points of appeal for Backwards Compatible. BTW, saw your note about BC, and while I'm disappointed that there will not be any updates soon, I understand about the "blockage." Good luck figuring that out!) In the meantime, hopefully you'll be able to let us all in on what happens next in THIS story rather soon. Welcome back and happy writing!

Glad to see you are still writing Ruskbyte. Interesting beginning, with what looks to be a story well worth reading. Going to pick up The I. M. Banks book to talk a look at - thanks for the tip.

BRILLIANT! It's good to know that you're still alive and writing. Looking forward to more, and happy new year!

I really like the start that you've provided here. Can't really comment on much, since this seems to be more of a prologue than an actual chapter. Regardless, I await future chapters in this crossover world that you've created. One other thing. It is good to see you posting your writing again.

I'm not familiar with the Culture, but this could be a very interesting story. Any ammount of intelligence should blow away the Wizarding world.

Looking forward to more. Thanks for returning to writing!
